About Us

Valley Outreach Synagogue was founded in 1986, with a specific and unique mission among Los Angeles Jewish institutions. It was to open a wide and welcoming door to Jewish life. Our founding spiritual leader, Rabbi Richard Schachet, of blessed memory, wanted to create a synagogue that would serve all who wished to participate regardless of their Jewish knowledge and experience, their sexual orientation or their ability to afford what he believed was essential for good living and for a better society.
