Rabbi Emeritus Jerry Fisher

Rabbi Jerry Fisher was born in Chicago Illinois and came to Los Angeles as a teen-ager. He graduated from Hamilton High School and U.C.L.A. with a degree in Psychology. While completing his Bachelor of Hebrew Letters degree at the California School of the Hebrew Union College, he served as student-rabbi of Temple Solael in Canoga Park. Following a year of study at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Rabbi Fisher completed his Rabbinic training at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1964 and served several Congregations in that area. His thesis, Conversion to Reform Judaism, appeared as a book in an experimental edition.

For six years Rabbi Fisher served at Stephen S. Wise Temple as Temple Administrator, School Director and Associate Rabbi. For twelve years he was the Rabbi of Temple Beth Torah in the North San Fernando Valley. Also for one year, Rabbi Fisher served as Chaplain for the Jewish inmates at the state prison in Tehachapi and the federal prison camp in Boron.

In 1986 Rabbi Fisher helped Rabbi Richard Schachet form Valley Outreach Synagogue,a very creative and innovative congregation. Upon Rabbi Schachet's retirement , Rabbi Fisher assumed the spiritual leadership of Valley Outreach Synagogue. In 2006, Rabbi Fisher retired and became the Rabbi Emeritus of Valley Outreach Synagogue.
